Foods to Promote Hair Health

Thin, course and dull hair, even hair loss could be rectified by a simple change in diet. It won’t result in an overnight change, but give it time – just a couple of weeks and you should notice a difference.

Salmon: Protein rich and is also high in Vitamin D – important in order to maintain strong hair. The essential fatty acids in the salmon are what your hair needs; these are what make up a good portion of the hair shaft. The Omega-3’s that the fish contains also help maintain scalp and hair hydration.

Walnuts: Not all nuts contain Omega-3 fatty acids, but walnuts do. These nuts are also rich in Vitamin E and Biotin which help to protect hair and biotin especially helps to prevent hair loss.

Oysters: It is the zinc in oysters which is most important to hair health as a lack of zinc can be the cause of hair loss as well as a dry, itchy and irritable scalp.
Sweet Potatoes: Containing Beta Carotene, this is what the body needs to manufacture Vitamin A.

Eggs: Eggs are packed with protein and loaded with four of the key minerals that help produce healthy hair: – zinc, iron, sulphur and selenium. Iron especially is important and it helps to transport oxygen around the body, including to the scalp and hair follicles. A lack of iron is a known cause of hair loss.

Spinach: Rich in folate, Vitamin C and beta carotene as well as Iron it helps to keep the hair follicles healthy.
Lentils: Lentils are packed full of protein as well as zinc, iron and biotin making it something of a hair health super food.
Greek Yoghurt: Another good source of protein as well as vitamin B5 and Vitamin D all of which promote the health of the hair follicle.

Blueberries: Another superfood as far as hair health in concerned, Blueberries are rich in Vitamin C, a lack of which can cause hair to become brittle and break.

Poultry: Protein packed and loaded with zinc, B Vitamins and Iron it can help to keep the hair strong and healthy. Hair is predominantly protein based so protein rich foods are important in promoting and maintains hair health.
